A video circulating on TikTok, claiming to show the announcement of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results, has gained significant attention. TikTok user @shahilbhandari08 posted a 10-second video clip on May 27 with the caption stating, “SEE results have been published.”

As of June 1, the video had accumulated over 2.1 million views and received more than 75,000 likes. The 10-second clip has been shared more than 2,700 times.

In the video, a female newsreader is heard saying the following:

“The National Examination Board published the SEE results. Sixteen thousand students graduated with A plus. Those who received a grade below that can participate in the supplementary exam.”

Many respondents to the TikTok post raised concerns that the video was outdated.

Four-year-old video

Nepal Check conducted a search on Google using relevant keywords. But we couldn’t locate the video through this method. The search was expanded to Facebook, but the video remained elusive.

However, after further investigation on Facebook, we found the video had indeed been published by Nepal Times on June 27, 2019, on their Facebook page. It was subsequently uploaded to their YouTube channel the same day. The original video, which aired on Nepal Times show Top Fifteen, featured newsreader Rashmita Udas reporting on the publication of SEE results. (Please watch the video). The news was also reported by The Kathmandu Post.

The full-length video lasts for approximately five minutes, but it was cropped to a mere 10 seconds for the TikTok post. This truncation removed essential context, contributing to the misleading nature of the clip.

Therefore, Nepal Check concluded that the TikTok post is outdated, having been recorded four years ago. We have rated the TikTok post as misleading.

The National Examination Board has yet to release the SEE results for 2023.
